Back in the late 1830s, merchant Henry Irby purchased a large parcel of wilderness. He established a general store and tavern at one corner of the property, and reportedly mounted a particularly impressive hunting trophy within view of all travelers, perhaps advertising the rich bounty of the land. Now, almost two centuries later, the Buckhead name still heralds success and abundance as one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, replete with breathtaking estates and booming businesses — including quite a few shops and taverns that would make Mr. Irby proud.
